“Viajando a… ¡Nueva York!”.

We have another skyscraper, the Chrysler Building. Who of you haven’t ever heard about it? It’s one of the tallest buildings (319m) in New York, in particular the third one. At the top of the list we have the Empire State Building (281m) followed by the Bank of America Tower (366m).

Edificio Chrysler / Chrysler Building |
It was built in 1930 and it was the highest building in that moment. William Vab Alen was the architect that designed the buildings sketches. However, this architect from Brooklyn was not an expert of high buildings, so Walter Percy Chrysler took part in the project. He was the Chrysler factory owner. He was interested in that building, so he paid 15 millions of dollars. While Chrysler building was being built, the Bank of Manhattan Trust was being built, too. There was a competition because both constructors wanted to build the highest building. Finally, Chrysler Building won because it had inside of it a cupola that was 36 metres long.

acero.
Related to its architecture,
we can see that its ornamentation is made with some car parts from Chrysler
cars. (That is why it is called like that). We find some corners that
have eagles, some copies of some parts of a Chrysler car made in 1929. They
represent some American eagles staring at the city. They used steel as the main
material and it had a metallic coating. Its bricks are white and dark. The gargoyles
of the spire is made using steel.

Catedral de St Patrick/St Patrick's Cathedral |
Changing the issue, we find
the religious one. It is St Patrick’s Cathedral. This catholic church that has
a neo-Gothic style, is dedicated to Ireland’s Patron Saint. It is the biggest
church in North America. They started to build it in 1859 but finally, the
church was finished in 1879 because of the civil war in North America. They
used white marble. Inside of the church, there are two big organs and there is
a sculpture, “La Piedad” by Miguel Angel. This one is around three times the
size of the original one that is in the Vatican.

Estatua de la Libertad/Statue of Liberty |
We will finish this post of
New York talking about the Statue of Liberty. It was opened on October in 1886
and it was a present that French people gave them due to the commemoration of
the 100 anniversary about U.S. Declaration of Independence. Its height is 46
metres (93 metres if we keep the keystone in mind. It is in the Liberty Island,
so to get there you will a ferry. Gustave Eiffel, the inventor of the Eiffel
Tower, took part in this project.
You can go inside and if you
climb some stairs, you will see the whole city from there.
I hope you like these posts
